Perry County Memorial Hospital is now an approved Indiana Safe Sleep Distributor Site for Region 17 consisting of seven counties total.
What does this mean?
The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), through partnerships with agencies in the State of Indiana, will provide safe sleep education and Infant Survival Kits (one infant portable crib, fitted sheet with safe sleep message imprinted on it, wearable blanket (aka sleep sack), pacifier, and safe sleep recommendations) for families who do not have a safe place for their infants to sleep. As part of the program, Perry County Memorial Hospital will provide a number of educational materials that will help caregivers learn more about safe sleep.
The Message
The program focuses on three key risk reduction recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and National Institutes of Health which state that infants sleep safest alone, on their backs and in a separate, safe sleep environment. Indiana has one of the highest Infant Mortality rates due to SIDS. This program is in efforts to reduce this number. PCMH will also be giving a Kit Only (without crib) to every mother who delivers at PCMH. This program is free of charge and there are NO financial prerequisites. All program items will be available in PCMH’s OB/Social Services office.
