TELL CITY, IN – Perry County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) is proud to announce the launch of its Youth Apprenticeship Program, an innovative partnership with Perry Central Community School and Southern Indiana Education Center. This exciting initiative is designed to empower students with valuable, real world skills and certifications that will set them up for success in their future careers.

Through this program, two Perry Central High School students will have the opportunity to "earn and learn" by participating in work-based learning experiences at PCMH. The program provides students with hands-on training in a hospital setting, exposing them to various facets of healthcare operations.

"We are incredibly excited to launch the Youth Apprenticeship Program and provide Perry Central students with this unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in healthcare," said Kayla Gehlhausen, Chief Nursing Officer at Perry County Memorial Hospital. "This initiative not only equips students with valuable skills and certifications but also helps us nurture and retain local talent. By investing in our youth, we’re building a pipeline of future healthcare professionals who can make a meaningful impact right here in our community."

Upon completion of the program, students will graduate with four industry-recognized certifications, equipping them with a strong foundation to pursue further education or enter the workforce directly with either a CNA or CCMA certification.

This initiative reflects PCMH’s ongoing commitment to fostering local talent and building a healthier, stronger Perry County.

Perry County Memorial Hospital hosted a Chamber Breakfast to showcase the Youth Apprenticeship Program and its positive impact on students and the community. The event provided an opportunity for local leaders and community members to learn more about this transformative initiative.
