Movember: Growing Awareness for Men’s Health at Perry County Memorial Hospital

Every November, you may notice an increase in mustaches around town. But these aren’t just style statements—they’re symbols of support for men’s health as part of the worldwide “Movember” movement. Movember encourages men to grow mustaches and get active to raise awareness and spark conversations about men’s health, particularly focusing on mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
At Perry County Memorial Hospital, we’re proud to join in Movember to highlight the importance of men’s health in our community. We believe every man deserves the chance to live a healthy, fulfilled life, and Movember is a perfect time to remind men and their loved ones to focus on physical and mental well-being.
Why Movember Matters
Men’s health issues often go unnoticed or untreated because men may hesitate to seek help or discuss their concerns. For example, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men. Tragically, men die by suicide at rates three to four times higher than women, making mental health a crucial component of Movember.
Movember shines a spotlight on these statistics, encouraging men to take action. From scheduling check-ups to making lifestyle changes, Movember inspires men to prioritize their health.

Lifestyle Counseling and Wellness Checks: Movember is also about prevention. A simple wellness check can be the first step toward living a healthier life. Any of our Primary Care Providers can also refer you to a doctor who specializes in treating any particular condition if you should have a medical issue requiring care from a doctor who has more in-depth training.
